Basketball erupted in Greece following the sensational win at EuroBasket 1987 in Piraeus, causing a massive basketball euphoria. Since then, Greek national teams have achieved a number of international victories. In global basketball, Greece is considered as a powerhouse.
Our national team was a runner-up in the 2006 FIBA World Championship and won twice the European Championship, in 1987 and in 2005. Greece is ranked in the top 10 in FIBA World Rankings.
